A true rarity, a published volume of “A General History of the Proceedings and Cruelties of the Court of Inquisition in Spain, Portugal and etc.” published in London in 1737 (roman numeral MDCCXXXVII) and illustrated with copper plate etchings depicting the “bloody and inhuman tortures of the Inquisition”.
Leather bound in original boards and owner’s book plate, Thomas Burgess (18 November 1756 – 19 February 1837) Morton Villa Brighous Yorkshire England who was “an English author, philosopher, Bishop of Saint David’s and Bishop of Salisbury”.
The book’s introduction is on Heresy, Bigotry and Persecution.
Size: book is approx. 4” x 6 1/2”
Condition: Very Good with Original boards and Leather, note leather is aged and has shelf wear. Binding is loose but appears to be original, minor foxing and some edges are chipped
