A circa late 1800’s walking stick with carved antler English Bulldog head with English Silver band. The dog is carved from a piece of antler with inset glass eyes. The decorated silver band is stamped with English Sterling marks and date of 1895.
The shaft is a hardwood with a shellac finish.
Condition: some marks on the shaft, very minor. The carving is in very, almost near perfect condition. Some wear to the silver band.
Size: 35” long x 2” high carving, silver collar is 2” long.
The marks appear to read Sterling London (England) from 1895. The maker is not clear, but appears to be “Sj”. If it is “SJ” then it might be Samuel Jacobs who was active in London from 1892-1916. By the look of the wear and style of walking stick, this could very well be the maker.

From the collection of nutcracker comes this wonderful Folk Art Carved Walking Stick. The African American man’s face is a wonderful piece. The painting gives the accents to this expressive face. The walking stick is one solid piece of wood.
One eye is a painted glass and the other is a painted wood. I am not sure which one is the original but I would guess the glass one was the original to the the walking stick.
Condition: Very good with some marks and wear to the the patina and the paint. One of the eyes has been replaced, please see the photos.
Size: 37” long and the head carving is approx. 2.75” high

A large portfolio collection of 1957 original pen and inks of Gladys Goldstein has come into the store.
Most of the pen and inks are dated and signed by the artist in 1957. Almost every piece shows the skill this artist had. The lines are continuous and executed with precision showing her almost stream of consciousness/ automatic drawings in an Expressionist Futurist style.
Each piece I have is an original, some are framed and others are loose pages. If you are interested in more, I will email you or wait or wait, I will post more on the site.
Gladys Goldstein was a Baltimore artist, 1918-2010 who started out painting and drawing as a naturalist and changed to a more abstract representation of nature and her surroundings.
She is quoted, “The negative space seemed so much more important than the positive,” she said. “I began to see differently and to think differently. So I began to paint abstractly.”
Size: framed 12 x 15 inches

From a collection of Folk Art and Outsider Art from NYC.
Glenn Bristow has been an accomplished discerning eye collector for years. Her collection reaches many styles of folk art and outsider art that will not disappoint.
I will be posting selected items from her collection and I will note each piece that it is from her unique and wonderful collection.
Here is another piece that will be a prime addition to your collection, a chipped carved tramp art lighted altar.
Three naves decorated with chipped carved design and a lower section stage. The lights are old colored Christmas bulbs that are wired together. The plug is old, as well as the wiring giving us the age of this piece. For safety, I would recommend having the wire checked out before plugging in. I have tried the lights and they do work but I have not kept them on longer than a minute.
The paint appears to be original in some areas and some areas the painted appears to be have been repainted, not recently but at some point.
No history on this piece except it came from Brooklyn and has been in the Glenn Bristow collection since the early 1990’s.
Size: 25.5 x 18 deep x 37.5 high. Each nave is approx. 5” deep, the center is 16” high x 4.5” wide and the two smaller ones are 13” high x 3” wide.
Condition: Very good with minor chipping, the wire is original and will need to be tested for safety.

From a local estate in Baltimore Md. This Smoking Tobacco Tin has never been to auction or been on the market before.
The estate collected mostly Antique Toys and Lionel Trains but the estate has been in the same family house since early 1900’s in Baltimore Md.
The Bailey Bros. Inc. made one of the most collectible Tobacco Tins, The 1930’s Bambino Smoking Tobacco Tin. The silhouette image of Babe Ruth swinging the bat has been an image used and has immortalized this likeness.
The Tin is in Extra Fine Condition and a simple search and comparison you will see that this piece is in better than ones that have recently sold and previously sold.
I have included multiple angles of the tin to give you a visual detail description and I will document any obvious flaws.
Condition: Top Tobacco stamp on top is missing and some scraps/ abrasions and gold paint lose on the top lid. Minor chips and scraps on the front image, Back has paint lose on the left side and lower left section. Stamp on back is faded but intact. Side stamp which would have continued to the top is partial on the side.
Size: 3” wide 4.5” high

A Charming Landscape Painting with Decoupaged Children and Animals. A wonderful piece of outsider/ folk art.
The stretcher is signed and dated on the back, Lillie Barker and dated April 19 1884. My guess the children and animals were put on by this person. The charm, the whimsical story this piece of folk art has to tell and it reminds me very much of the art Harry Darger created in the early 1900’s.
Please see the photos I have included to give you a visual story and description of this amazing piece.
Note: I have photographed this piece with he glass and have not taken the item apart to photograph. Any lightness is from photographing and any damage will be noted
Size: Image 9.25 x 13

The soldier is unknown and is not marked on the case and the family did not know the name.
A nice seated pose with a simple table next to him. His Kepi hat is intact and his uniform appears to be in good condition, so the photo was taken before he went to battle or he did not see a lot of action.
The case is not intact and is missing the cover.

A small water stain in the top right side is the only damage of note. The frame is wide profile oak with a dark Shellac finish, with an Arts and Crafts look.

A very nice hand painted French lidded jar. The lettering is hand written, as were most apothecary jars. The druggist would buy the blanks as they needed to make up growing repertoire of compounds and medicines. This process started in Europe staring back in the mid 600’s AD.
This small decorated lidded jar continues in this tradition.
The bottom is marked: CP & Co France.
The hand painted flowers frames the ” Ext. Jalap”, which is extract of Jalap, according to searching, “Jalap has been known in Europe since the beginning of the 17th century, and derives its name from the city of Xalapa in Mexico, near which it grows, but its botanical source was not accurately determined until 1829, when Dr. J. R. Coxe of Philadelphia published a description.”
Condition: Small chip on the bottom portion of the lid

Design by Hans-Agne Jacobsson for Markaryd, this very nice table lamp one of his better designs. The height and multi-tiers give off a lot of light.
The model number is on the bottom B 99, with the original sticker and stamps from the company.
The shade is a white powder coat metal and the base is brass colored metal. As you can see from the photos, the base has spots and the brass color on the top ring has started to wear.
Size: 19” high x 9” diam.
Condition: Some areas show signs of wear on the brass section. The top ring shows signs of wear. The White Powder Coat shade has some very small dings and one spot of black scuff. The Lamp has a very slight lean.

A very nice with strong detail bud vase with mermaid. I believe this mermaid to be a portrayal of Melusine.
Melusine was a French Mythological Mermaid. She is usually depicted as a woman who is a serpent or fish from the waist down (much like a mermaid). She is also sometimes illustrated with wings, two tails or both.
In this bronze bud vase, you can see the serpents at the base on the backside of the vase.
The vase is unmarked, but I have not taken the bottom off. The screws do not appear to have been removed in a long time.
Condition: Patina is in very good condition with very minimal shelf wear on the bottom
Size: 9” tall

Late 1800’s stamp portraits of the faculty of Eastman College in Pokeepsie New York.
C. H. Gallup is the photographer.
The Stamp Portraits were a small fad during the 1800’s and not a lot of survived.
This group is from a scrap book of a student of the University. I have not taken the book apart, this is how I have received this item.
Each portrait has the sitters name on the bottom section of the portrait. The page is beautifully decorated and labeled with the each person’s job at the college. I am sad to say that two of the portraits have not survived. You can see two blank areas on the left page.
The estate has framed the page and I can ship it with or without the glass frame.

“One of the most famous printmaker of the early 20th century, he was known for his medieval architectural etchings that combined precise realism with a sense of soaring spirituality. He believed that Gothic architecture was man’s greatest achievement, uniting spiritual and aesthetic values, and was best known for his renderings of gargoyles and European churches. He was remarkably prolific, considering that he worked slowly and deliberately and spent much time traveling, writing, and lecturing.”

The Savonarola Chair, also called X chair and or Dante Chair, became popular in the Renaissance period and once again the late 1800’s with Renaissance Revival. The chairs became associated with Institutional scholars, and the early Medical collectors.
Savonarola chairs are remarkable, they are folding chair design with the back fitting and holding of the chair in position. Please note the very nice dove tail fitting of the back section of the arm.
The seat is carved with a crest and the back is heavily carved with a portrait in profile sided by two Mystical creatures.
The arms are carved with a geometric design which gives a Moorish look to the arms. The feet of the chair are a stylized lion foot.
Size: 27.5 wide x 36” high x 20” deep
Condition: Very Good, with a small chip on the right back portion of the arm. Some wear to the feet. The condition appears to be original.
This chairs is being offered by the estate of Dr. Stephen Provenza. His amazing and wide ranging Apothecary collection lent itself to this type of chair. He was very thorough with fine eye for collecting and also for what pieces would show off his antique Jars and books.
A wonderful look and is in wonderful condition.

Gutta Percha products are from the mid to late 1800’s. The sap of a tropical tree has been used by dentist, furniture makes, jewelry, photography cases, golf balls and many other industrial products.
A product that could be molded and it’s dark color, gutta percha was used in the Victorian era mourning jewelry.
The advent of photography, the occult movement and other factors, the Victorian era society had a small fascination with the deceased. Photographs were taken of the departed, the family members would make jewelry out of their hair and it was common for a widow to wear black in mourning for years after a beloved had died.
Here is a wonderful piece and is rare due to the fact that Gutta Percha, being a natural material, have been lost to damage and to insect eating the material. So to have a set come in with the original box is amazing.
The set includes: Earrings, Necklace, Bracelet and Broach.
The set is designed with oak leaves which is very popular in this time:
“hospitality, stability, strength, honour, eternity, endurance, liberty. It is believed to have been the tree from which Jesus Christ’s cross was made. In smaller pioneer cemeteries, it is common to place children’s graves near oak trees. The oak tree was the tree of life in pre-Christian times. The Druids worshipped the oak. The oak, oak leaves and acorn can stand for power, authority or victory. Often seen on military tombs”
The original box, the four piece set puts this set above others out there for sale.
Condition: Some areas have small chips off the leaves, I have tried to photograph these areas to give you a visual description. One of the earrings has a new backing. The metal behind the gutta percha has tarnished.
The box has wear but is intact.
Size: box is approx. 9” x 9”
