1800's Hand Colored Steel Plate Mezotint Society of Goffers at Blackheath by V. Green Merratin

Lemuel Francis Abbott was a famed portrait painter in the 18th century. The painting was 1790, and the hand colored mezzotint by V. Green Merratin, engraver to King and "elector Valatine". The title "To the Society of Goffers at Blackheath" and sub titled "This Plate is with just Respect Dedicated by Their Most humble Servant Lemuel Francis Abbott". Lower left is marked " William Innes Merchant of Lime Street Square, of the Society of Goffers..." William Innes (1760-1803) was captain of the Society of Golfers at Blackheath.
The image size is 17" x 25" and is signed lower left by the painter, and lower right V. Green Merratin the engraver.
The print is in near fine condition and is in a mid 1900's frame and mat.
This print is reported to be the first ever golf print and will be a great addition to any enthusiast or golf collector.
