Poster Announcing the Ted Shawn and His Dancers 1931 Art by Major Felton. 

Ted Shawn 1891-1972 was the American pioneer of Modern Dance.

Starting a school in the early 1900’s with then wife Ruth St. Denis called Denishawn School, which lasted the till 1931, Shawn would quickly create Ted Shawn and His Men Dancers. This group became innovative with “masculine movement, he was one of the most influential choreographers and dancers of his day.”
The founder of Jacob’s Pillow in Massachusetts in the 1930’s the retreat was built by “early corps of his all-male company built many of the structures on the Jacob's Pillow campus. This effort came to an end in 1940” During WWII many of his male students joined the military. Today Jabob’s Pillow is one of the premier modern dance schools in America. 
Shawn’s 9 books published during his lifetime are considered the foundation of American Modern Dance Techniques.

The Poster was designed by Major Felten, in 1931, the same year he creates his dance troupe Ted Shawn and His Men Dancer. The Poster shortens the troupe to “and his dancers”.

Poster art and design was by Major Felten, a illustrator and visual artist. His style of exaggerated lines and expressions typical of Art Deco period merged so well with the drama and expressive movement of the this new Dance Movement. 

Size: 41 x 63 inches
Condition: the poster had been conserved by a paper conservator. Light signs of soiling on the front with some areas showing faint water stains. The reds are still very vibrant and bold and the black is still very right and not faded. Please see the images for more details.
