A Scarce Baltimore Zoo Poster with Chiquita The Living Doll and Morelli Queen of Jaguars 1902
Baltimore Zoo Poster with Chiquita The Living Doll and Morelli Queen of Jaguars 1902
This very scarce poster is for Chiquita and Morelli Queen of Jaguars. Not dated but I have found a Baltimore Sun Article dated from 1902 talking about the event.
The Poster is an adverting for Chiquita whose real name was real name Alizia Espiridona and was born 1869. Chiquita was normally billed as The Little One or also as The Living Doll she was reported to be 28 inches tall and said to have lavish taste with the latest fashions of her time. The Poster bills her as The Smallest and Sweetest morsel of Womanhood in all the world.
The other attraction was Morelli Queen of Jaguars, miss labels as Morrelli on the poster. Morelli was part of Frank Bostock's famous animal training troupe who real name was Madame Marie-Louise Morelli.
Bostock’s was run by Frank Bostock whose trainers included Captain Jack Bonavita, who served as the main attraction alongside his 30 lions, including several rare ones with black manes; Madam Morelli, ‘Queen of the Jaguars’, with nine in total.
The Poster also has Bonavita The Lion Monarch, but there is no record of this person and could very well be Morelli as the other performer. \
