Circa 1950 Vintage Japanese Boys Day Banner Nobori 24 Feet Tall Hand Painted and Printed Warriors on Horseback

Japanese Nobori (banner) were displayed on May 5th of every year, also known as Boy’s Day. The tradition started in as an ancient Chinese festival and was part of the old lunar Chinese calendar that marked a day to ward off evil spirits and pray for good health.
Later in the Eno period the name as changed to Boy’s Day and was a way to celebrate the young boys in the household to give them strength and the banners would appeal to the Gods.
Each banner is decorated with a stencil design and hand painted details would be added making each banner a unique item. 

This Nobori shows warriors on horseback with a temple on the top off in the distance. The Family crest seal or in Japan is called a Mon shows off the family this was for.

Condition: Near perfect and since this banner was used once, it is in very fine condition. Very few small water spots can been seen upon close inspection but not tears or damage to the cotton or the image. Please see the images for more details
