Circa 1900's Rare Meiji Period Articulated Ivory and Bone Model Crab 9" Wide
A rare and unique early 1900's Meiji Period articulated ivory and bone crab. Approx. 9” wide x 7” deep, the claws are approx. 4” long and the body is approx. 3 3/4” wide. One of the most unique pieces of Japanese Meiji period artistry I have seen. The detail and the craftsmanship is amazing with almost every piece able to move. The realism of this piece is remarkable.
The top of the crab's body separates to reveal a compartment. The crab is in remarkable condition with one leg at the joint needing repair. I have photographed this area in detail. There is some tape marks that will need to be cleaned. I have certified conservators that I can refer; they will be able to do museum quality work. Please contact me if you are interested in having this done after you purchase this piece.
If you have any questions or need additional photographs, please feel free to email me.
