Civil War Era Circa 1850's Cased Fleams Thumb Lancets in Leather Case 2 Lancets in Pocket Case

2 cased Fleam / Bloodletting tools Steel blade with pivoting tortoiseshell style blade protectors with leather over hard board case.
The Tortoiseshell appears to be an early synthetic. I do not see any flaking associated with natural material but due to the age of the items I am not sure what material this would be.

Year: Circa 1850's
Maker: Unknown

These pocket bloodletting tools, also called Thumb Lancets these early medical devices were a common tool in a surgeons and doctors kit.
Both Lancets or Fleams fit nicely in the leather over heavy board case. The Lancet is protected by a pivoting tortoise shell and or style scale.
I did not see any makers mark on the blade. Please see the image provided for a visual description.

Size: each lancet is approx. 2 3/4 and when open approx. 4 1/2 inches long.
Condition: fine, amazing condition due to the age. Please see images for more details.
