Alexander Helwig Wyant Large Oil Hudson River School Style Signed Dated 1865

A large and wonderful example of Hudson River School style and subject.
Alexander Helwig Wyant, (American January 11, 1836, in Ohio – November 29, 1892). Moving to New York in 1863 and he took part in National Academy of Design and according to his bio… "Wyant went abroad in 1865, studying for a few months with the Norwegian painter Hans Gude in Düsseldorf and Karlsruhe, Germany,[3] and making brief stops in England and Ireland before settling again in New York. "
More research coming to determine if the landscape is during his European time or his Up State New York Hudson River area.

This large oil has been in the estate since 1930's and appears to have been varnished sometime around then or a little later. Areas of heavy varnish and drips in the lower portion of the painting.
The painting has not been cleaned or treated since the estate has owned the piece.
NOTE:
The painting was photographed with a flash, the painting's varnish has darkened.

Signed Lower Left AH Wyant 1865
