Keenan according to John S. Craig, "Also spelled Kenan; photographist, Philadelphia, Pa., 1848-1860. In 1848 he was listed at 312 Market Street. He is probably the same as "Kenan" listed in 1849 in partnership as Bradley (C.P.) and Kenan at 340 Market Street. J. Kenan was also listed alone at 252 South Second Street in 1849 and 1850. John A. Keenan was listed at 262 South Second Street in 1850; at 252 South Second Street in 1851; and at 248 South Second Street from 1852 to 1857. From 1858 to 1860 he was listed at 526 South Second Street. This is possibly the same as Kennan Photographic Co.; and noted on an identified image, "Keenan/Phila", stamped on brass mat. It is possible that William Bell first apprenticed as a daguerreian with Keenan from 1848 to 1852."
