Folding Walnut 1800s Savonarola Chair Renaissance Revival With Coat of Arms

The Savonarola Chair, also called X chair and or Dante Chair, became popular in the Renaissance period and once again the late 1800's with Renaissance Revival. The chairs became associated with Institutional scholars, and the early Medical collectors.
Savonarola chairs are remarkable, they are folding chair design with the back fitting and holding of the chair in position. Please note the very nice dove tail fitting of the back section of the arm.
The seat is carved with a crest and the back is heavily carved with a portrait in profile sided by two Mystical creatures.
The arms are carved with a geometric design which gives a Moorish look to the arms. The feet of the chair are a stylized lion foot.

Size: 27.5 wide x 36" high x 20" deep
Condition: Very Good, with a small chip on the right back portion of the arm. Some wear to the feet. The condition appears to be original.

This chairs is being offered by the estate of Dr. Stephen Provenza. His amazing and wide ranging Apothecary collection lent itself to this type of chair. He was very thorough with fine eye for collecting and also for what pieces would show off his antique Jars and books.
A wonderful look and is in wonderful condition.
