General L. C. Baker is the author of History of The Secret Service. Lafayette Curry Baker (October 13, 1826 – July 3, 1868) was a United States investigator and spy, serving for the Union Army, during the American Civil War and under presidents Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. This book is case history and at the time, un told stories of the Secret Service, originally the Pinkerton National Detective Agency.
"Pinkerton National Detective Agency, usually shortened to the Pinkertons, is a private security guard and detective agency established in the U.S. by Allan Pinkerton in 1850 and currently a subsidiary of Securitas AB.[1] Pinkerton became famous when he claimed to have foiled a plot to assassinate president-elect Abraham Lincoln, who later hired Pinkerton agents for his personal security during the Civil War."

The book is 1st edition published in 1868 by King & Baird Philadelphia. Hardback edition with embossed gold lettering on spine and dark colored Cloth end boards. Steel Plate engraving in the front of the book and illustrated through out.

Condition: some foxing throughout the book. Spine and binding are in good condition with minimal wear. Bumped corners and top right corner and rear top right corner is bent.
