Luristan, western Iran region Bronze Master of Animals Finial, circa 500 BC

Done in a Scythian art form, which is the art associated with Scythian cultures, produced by the nomadic tribes of the area known as Scythia, which encompassed Central Asia, parts of Eastern Europe east of the Vistula River, and parts of South Asia. 

The Luristan bronze form was from Western area of Iran. The design on this one is called "Master of Animals" motif and shows a human positioned between and holding two confronted animals is common. Other motifs are female "mistress of animals", same style with the added meaning of power of woman. 

My client had the fortune to acquire while he was living and working in Afghanistan region. During his stay there in the 70's he was able to travel and absorb the culture and was able to get some amazing pieces for himself. 

Size: total height with base approx. 19" tall
Condition: Very good, obvious wear from age. The finial has been placed in wood base for display and appears to have been cleaned at some point for preservation. No visible repairs but the bronze is over 2,000 years old and will have marks and wear. Please see the images for more details.
