Unfinished Wood Folk Art Chain Whimsey Circa Mid Century

The folk art tradition of the chain whimsey goes back into the 1800's, a lot of these were done on downtime for the sailors, military and other professions that had access to wood. The on going carving was a way to pass the time or measure the time a person spent in their "idle" hours. This one is unique, there is a part that was never finished, started but never fully done, a large part has the links. The part that is unfinished shows the process on how these folk art pieces are done, the drilled hole to start and the chains are done from the inside out.

Size: 67 inches long. Links are 2 x 1 1/2 each. 17 inches are unfinished
Condition: Very fine with no breaks or damaged link. Each one is very finely done, as you can see the unfinished part has original pencil and holes started but never completed. Please see the images for more details
